A Bowl with the image of Thirteen Factories, Qing Dynasty,
Diameter: 59.5cm
This big bowl [1], printed with the image of Thirteen Factories, was produced in the Qing Dynasty. Its use of color was bright and royal and the painter might have adopted a western linear perspective to create a sense of space.
This vessel serves as a historical record of how prosper the Guangzhou trading industry was like back in the Qing dynasty. Although the Thirteen Factories had already burnt into ashes and completely disappeared in 1856, this bowl helps us to visualize and reconstruct the success of Thirteen Factories as a huge trading commerce and the importance of Guangzhou in the Maritime Road.
