Cane and deer in summer
Overall, this embroidery reflects clearly the characteristics of Cantonese embroidery in terms of full composition, vibrant color and vivid imagery. The whole embroidery is constructed by tree, flowers and animals with different postures and colors, e.g. running deer, flying cane, luxuriant pine tree. These subject matters are easily identifiable and realistic as techniques of Western oil painting are applied. Perspective and light refraction are used to indicate the space and create three dimensional effect. The lifelikeness also relied on multiple embroidery techniques, e.g. Shu zhen(舒針) is used to embroider the feathers of birds in order to show its lightness, while tree and flowers are embroidered by Fengche zhen (風車針).
