Zhao Shao’ang, Plate painted with Sunflower, Republican period, China.
Diameter: 24.1 cm
Zhao Shao’ang 趙少昂, another Lingnan school master, also made Kwon-glazed porcelain[1]. Flower and insect is a typical Lingnan school subject matter and the image is vividly painted. For instance the leaves are being eaten (perhaps by some worms) while the bee is very lively and busy at collecting honey[2]. It demonstrates the energetic side admired by Lingnan school.
